Each frame in the animation shows a Doppler lidar sector scan of residual radial velocities taken just above the surface of the ocean. Tick marks indicate 2 km spacing and labels show latitude and longitude. All velocities are in m/s.
Stepping through the animation, see the time stamp for each frame. Cool colors indicate flow toward the lidar and warm colors indicate flow away from the lidar. Note the couplet of opposing flows (blue and gold/red) that occur between 20:04 and 20:10. This velocity structure is a convective outflow which stays intact as it propagates past the lidar.
