Earth's Radiation Budget

Projects

Since its inception in 2020, the Earth's Radiation Budget (ERB) Program has supported over 50 projects to advance our understanding of natural and human activities that might alter the chemistry and reflectivity of the atmosphere and the potential impacts of those activities on the Earth System. This work includes expanding our atmospheric observation capabilities to fill important gaps in our baseline understanding of the atmosphere along with advanced modeling and laboratory studies crucial to investigating the efficacy and potential impacts of solar radiation modification (SRM) methods and their analogs. The ERB Program also supports relevant workshops and related activities.

The ERB Program supports work across six NOAA Research laboratories and one program office as well as continues NOAA’s long and productive history of supporting and collaborating with other U.S. and international scientific institutions on research important to the nation. See our Partners for more information.

Any peer-reviewed publications generated from ERB-supported research projects are included in their respective project descriptions. See our Publications for the full list of ERB research publications.
