The flight plan was designed to sample ozone east of Dallas, then to map ozone in the Dallas area and across a stationary front located north of Dallas. After takeoff, the plane flew at 3500 ft altitude for several minutes until well north of Houston. After arriving in the Dallas area, instrument difficulties precluded morning sampling. The flight was scrubbed when cloud coverage in the Dallas interfered with sampling.
