Daily Summary:

Tuesday, June 7: CABOTS IOP1
Day 10 of CABOTS IOP 1 observations. TOPAZ data were taken from 09:00 - 19:00 PDT. Measurements were interrupted from 11:00 to 12:40 so the 2B in situ monitor could be audited by the CARB (Ozone insitu data during that time are not ambient measurements). Hot (39 C), moderately hazy, a few high clouds and contrails. High aerosol backscatter in the BL all day, but less pronounced in the afternoon. The boundary layer (BL) remained shallow between 400 and 600 m for most of the day with some deeper convective plumes to 1200 m around 1600 PDT. These plumes may have entrained some of the RL from the previous day. BL ozone increased gradually to more than 80 ppbv in the mid-afternoon. A clean low-ozone layer was observed about 1200 m AGL around 1300 PDT. A persistent slowly descending layer with <50 ppbv of ozone was also observed above 3500 m AGL.
