Daily Summary:

Thursday, June 9: CABOTS IOP1
Day 12 of CABOTS IOP 1 observations. TOPAZ data were taken from 08:05 - 17:42 PDT. The day was very similar to the previous day: slightly cooler (34 C) and moderately hazy with broken, but widespread alto cirrus between 4 and 5 km agl for most of the day. Both the ozone and aerosol lidar observations were remarkably similar to those from June 8 with slightly higher aerosol backscatter in the BL during the morning and less in the afternoon. Sierra's were clearly visible most of the day. The boundary layer (BL) remained between 400 and 600 m all afternoon with several high ozone and aerosol layers between the top of the BL and 2 km agl. Very clean air above 2 km agl for most of the day with higher ozone above 4 km at the beginning of the run. BL ozone was low in the morning, but slowly increased to a maximum of about 65-70 ppbv in the late afternoon. Surface ozone was also slightly lower, peaking at about 60 ppbv in the late afternoon.
