Nan Serkes has been named this year's recipient of the Unsung S/Hero in Federal Service Award for the Rocky Mountain Region of the organization, Federally Employed Women (FEW). The Award will be bestowed on Friday March 15 at a major FEW meeting and training day in Arvada, Colorado.

The Award recognizes employees who are hidden heroes – those who step up to "get the job done" whether the task is large or small, with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, and without regard to reward or recognition.

CSD Director A.R. Ravishankara, in nominating Nan, noted that the Award criteria are a perfect description of Nan, who has been CSD's Administrative Officer for the past few years. The job is undoubtedly the most complex, deadline-laden job in CSD, yet Nan has always accomplished the job with professionalism, enthusiasm, and her secret ingredient (humor)! Whether handling the many data calls associated with the extraordinary budget situation of the past several months, or the more "routine" times of managing a complex budget involving several external contracts in addition to base funding, Nan accomplishes her job with an indomitable spirit and superb skills.

Nan retired from federal service last December, but is continuing to help as a contractor until CSD hires a replacement. Her usual positive attitude has been characteristic of this not-so-carefree "retirement"!
