May 19. Sunday. Clear all day with light breeze. First LVOS TOPAZ operations in the early afternoon with Lidar data collected from 1337 to 2027 PDT (=MST) or 2030 to 0330 UT. In situ O3/CO instruments installed, with measurements recorded continuously from 1930 PDT (0230 UT) onward. The preliminary TOPAZ curtain plot shows a layer of high ozone (>100 ppbv) between 1.5 and 2.0 km AGL (3.2 to 4.7 km ASL). This layer is consistent with a stratospheric intrusion seen in the FLEXPART and WRF-Chem forecasts. The in situ O3/CO concentrations were 67/135 ppbv at 0230UT.
Note: the low (purple) ozone values seen near the top of the curtain plot near midday are biased by the solar background in these preliminary analyses.
Aerosol Backscatter Data not available.
