The NOAA Twin Otter was on service break, and flights resumed 12 July.
The past:
12 July, Monday afternoon flight: map pollution in the LA Basin, Sta
Clarita, and characterize boundary conditions over the high desert.
Departure coordinated with OMI satellite.
13 July, Tuesday: No flight. The aircraft had lost power to the scientific payload during the last landing. A generator problem was identified. A new generator arrived on the morning of 14 July. 13 July was a down day.
The plan:
14 July, Wednesday, two flights. Afternoon: characterize pollution
transport in the Bakersfield area, and the Southern SJV (all
instruments). Night flight: study the role of mountain slope flows and
the low level jet in redistributing pollutants. (TOPAZ and HALO only).
15 July, Thursday, one flight. Afternoon: map pollution in the LA Basin, downtown LA, Perris, San Bernardino Mountains, Banning, over high desert, and Joshua Tree. Vertical distribution near Joshua Tree, Banning, Bracket and Santa Monica.
16 July, Friday, two flights. Morning flight: map pollution in the LA Basin, downtown LA, Perris, San Bernardino Mountains, Banning, over high desert, and Joshua Tree. Vertical distribution near Joshua Tree, Banning, Bracket and Santa Monica. Afternoon flight: export of pollution through Cajon and Banning passes, and due to mountain venting.
17 July, Saturday, one flight. Morning flight: map pollution in the LA Basin, downtown LA, Perris, San Bernardino Mountains, Banning, over high desert, and Joshua Tree. Vertical distribution near Joshua Tree, Banning, Bracket and Santa Monica. Export of pollution through the passes, and due to mountain venting.
18 July, Sunday, two flights. Early morning twilight flight (530 PDT take off): NO3 vertical profile. Later morning: tentative plan to fly along US-Mexican border to study trans-boundary transport of pollution.
19 July, Monday, 800 PDT take off, transfer back to Broomfield, CO. Some science along the way, possibly near Four Corners Power Plants, and/or Las Vegas.
